Who is a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?

With the changing technology hitting the dental industry, dental implants have never been a more beneficial option for restoring your smile. Implants are completely permanent and will last you a lifetime once placed and healed. They are a great choice for most healthy adults who are missing one or more of their teeth. They are a viable alternative to partial dentures and fixed bridges. Knowing if you are a good candidate for dental implants can help you prepare for the procedure.

All About Dental Implants

Dental implants are small metal rods that are placed underneath the gum line and into the jaw bone. Implants are made from surgical-grade titanium, so they are safe to insert into the body and are made to last a lifetime without needing replacement. The small holes in the implant allow for your natural bone to fuse with the appliance to create a secured, anchored root for restorative work. Once an implant has healed completely, our dentists in Kye TX can place a dental crown on top to improve the look and feel of your smile.

Are You a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?

Most healthy adults are good candidates for dental implants. Prior to having the procedure done, we will conduct a full consultation and medical history with you. People who have bone density problems or those who have auto immune diseases that affect their body’s ability to heal may not be eligible for the procedure. However, most people who want a dental implant are often good candidates for the surgery and the benefits of implants outweigh any risks that are involved. Only through an examination and consultation can be determine if implants are right for you.

What to Expect with the Procedure

You will receive anesthetic of your choice to make the implant surgery more comfortable. Once the area is fully numb, an incision is made to carefully place the implant and keep it in place. Sutures are placed to close the incision for full and proper healing. The implant will fuse with your jaw bone in roughly three to six months. Once healed, you will come back in and have a crown placed on top of the implant to completely restore your smile permanently and safely.
