Dental Implants

What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are used to completely replace a missing tooth. They are made out of surgical-grade titanium and can last a lifetime. The implant can be used to house a crown or even keep dentures securely in place. Because of the advancements in implant technology, they can be placed quickly and easily with a high success rate.

Why do you need a Dental Implant?

A dental implant has many functions and can help to improve the overall look and functionality of your smile. Before having the implant placed, you’ll need to come into our office for a full consultation and exam. Some of the reasons you may need or want a dental implant include:

• You are completely missing one or more of your teeth
• You want a more secure-fitting denture
• You do not want a fixed dental bridge
• You want a permanent, hassle-free option

How Successful Are Dental Implants?

What makes you a good candidate for a Dental Implant?

In order to be considered for dental implant surgery, you need to be a healthy adult patient with solid bone density. If you have a disease that prevents proper healing, like type two diabetes, or if you have poor bone density, the procedure may not be right for you. Only a consultation, examination and full health history can help to determine if a dental implant is right for you. Dental implants heal within three to six months and can provide a lifetime of a full, beautiful smile.

What happens during the procedure for a Dental Implant?

Before the surgery is scheduled, you’ll need to come into our office for a consultation and examination. Once scheduled, you’ll come back in and have the implant placed. The incision will be sutured for optimal healing and you will be sent home with important aftercare instructions. You may need to come into the office regularly while the implant is healing. Once fully healed, you can have a crown placed on top of the implant or a specially-made set of dentures created that snap onto the implants. Dental implants are permanent and are meant to last a lifetime.
